Former USPS Employee Sentenced To 5 Years After Stealing $24 Million In Check Theft Scheme, Feds Say
A former USPS employee, Nakedra Shannon, was sentenced to five years in prison for stealing over $20 million in checks, federal authorities announced.
Shannon, 30, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit financial institution fraud and theft of government property.
Co-conspirators Desiray Carter, 30, and Donell Gardner, 28, were each sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison. The trio also owes $113,333.87 in restitution.
From March 2021 to July 2023, Shannon, working as a mail processing clerk in Charlotte, collaborated with Carter and Gardner to steal checks from the mail. They sold over $12 million worth of checks through a Telegram channel, “OG Glass House,” and also trafficked stolen U.S. Treasury checks.
Carter, using the alias “SW1PER,” and Gardner, “RonnieHicks,” coordinated sales and offered customer service to buyers, even guaranteeing replacements for “bad” checks.
In May 2023, an undercover agent contacted Carter to purchase a stolen check. The trio was arrested in November 2023. The U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed the criminal operation generated hundreds of thousands in proceeds.
