Denzel Washington’s ‘Othello’ Performance Seemingly Snubbed By Tony Awards

The 2025 Tony Award nominations are in, and eyebrows are raised after Denzel Washington was nowhere to be found!

The two-time Oscar winner was widely expected to earn a nomination for his performance in the Broadway revival of Shakespeare’s Othello, but both he and co-star Jake Gyllenhaal were left out entirely.

Denzel, who returned to the stage to take on one of the most iconic roles in theater, had reportedly generated plenty of awards buzz. Still, the performance wasn’t enough to earn him a chance at a second Tony.

Other notable celebs missing from the nominations include Snow White star Rachel Zegler, who portrayed Juliet in Romeo + Juliet on Broadway, as well as Marvel star Robert Downey Jr., who made his Broadway debut in McNeal.

Meanwhile, some of the big names who did score Tony noms this year include George Clooney, Nicole Scherzinger, and Stranger Things star Sadie Sink.

As far as Denzel goes, this marks his second major snub of 2025. Back in January, he was also unexpectedly left out of the Best Supporting Actor category at the Oscars for his role in Gladiator II.

Despite the award season disappointments, Denzel previously told press that he performs out of passion, not for recognition. While he hasn’t commented publicly on the Tony snub just yet, fans are still celebrating his Othello performance as one of the most compelling on Broadway.

Are you shocked to see Denzel miss out on another major award nomination?
