While appearing on Jemele Hill’s Spolitics podcast, Ricky shared his deep disappointment over the incident, calling out what he described as a violent and harmful culture that has overtaken parts of the organization.
“In 25 years in the frat, I have never put my hands on anybody,” he said, stressing that the current behavior is “wrong.”
Smiley went on to say that he believes the fraternity’s founders would not support such actions, and likely wouldn’t have selected many of the individuals currently representing Omega Psi Phi.
As you may recall, 20-year-old Caleb Wilson d*ed in February after being punched in the chest during an alleged unsanctioned hazing event connected to the fraternity. His de@th sparked national outrage, renewed calls to end hazing, and led to a criminal investigation.
Multiple arrests have since been made, and Omega Psi Phi’s national office has publicly condemned the incident and suspended all activities at the local chapter involved.
Do you agree with Ricky Smiley’s take on the culture within Greek organizations? ?
