High School Senior Breaks Down After Dad Surprises Him In Matching Outfit For Prom, Mom Calls It A ‘Healing Moment’

Romello Daniels, an 18-year-old high school senior, showed up to prom in a custom purple velvet tuxedo gown inspired by Billy Porter’s iconic Oscars look… but what really had people talking was when his dad, #Malik, stepped outside in a matching outfit.

Romello’s mom, Diamond Givens, recorded the moment and posted it to TikTok. In her caption, she wrote, “My son has had a rocky relationship with his pops growing up because his pops is Muslim and does not condone his lifestyle… So on this day he thought that his pops would not even come outside to see him leave for prom… Well his pops said I’m taking my son to prom as his chauffeur and I’m going to match his outfit!”

Diamond told PEOPLE, “His face lit up because he’s like, it’s my dad. But when he walked around the truck and he saw how he was dressed to match him… that was the moment that Romello said just got to him… [it] was a healing moment.”

Malik is not Romello’s biological father, but he made it clear, “Romello is my child.” He acknowledged their past tension but chose to show support in that moment: “Through my prayers and through my faith, I was able to pour into my child… and that was a moment that I chose to show him.”
