Singer Tyla Speaks On Navigating Fame: ‘Y’all Gonna Analyze Every Little Thing I Do?’
Tyla is opening up about the pressure that comes with being in the spotlight.
In a new interview with KISS XTRA, the singer admitted she’s had to adjust to public scrutiny. “For a while, I just felt like, damn, relax,” she said. “Because, I don’t know. It was just getting annoying.”
She continued,
“I kind of had to get used to people just being interested and embrace it now, but at the time, I was like, ‘Y’all gonna analyze every little thing I do?’ For a while, I felt weird about it, but then I just realized that you kind of have to do what you want, do it the way you want, and everyone’s going to have their own take on it, their own opinion on it, and that’s okay.”
Tyla’s had several viral moments since her rise. She faced backlash over a resurfaced 2020 TikTok where she identified as a “Coloured South African.”
She was also picked apart after her #VMA win for Best Afrobeats Video, when she chose not to hold the trophy.
