Villanova University Confirms Active $hooter Report Was A ‘Cruel Hoax’
Villanova University confirmed that the report of a campus $hooter was a cruel hoax.
Villanova President Rev. Peter M. Donohue said:
“Today, as we are celebrating Orientation Mass to welcome our newest Villanovans and their families to our community, panic and terror ensued. Mercifully, no one was injured and we now know it was a cruel hoax.”
The false alarm triggered panic around 4:30 p.m. on August 21 when someone called 911 reporting a shooter in a law school building with at least one wounded victim. Students received texts from the school alert system saying, “ACTIVE $HOOTER on VU campus. Move to secure location. Lock/barricade doors.”
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said state police would use all tools available “to find the person or people who called in this fake threat and hold them accountable.”
