Magic Johnson Gives Newly Engaged Travis Kelce & Taylor Swift A Reality Check About Marriage: ‘Never Go To Bed Upset’
Magic Johnson is opening up about the simple rules he believes can help couples, even high-profile ones like Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, build a lasting marriage.
As Kelce and Swift prepare to walk down the aisle, Johnson shared his best relationship guidance during the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Award Gala in New York on Tuesday, December 9.
“Well, I think, No. 1 is [to] remember who you fell in love with and don’t try to change them,” Johnson, 66, exclusively told Us Weekly. He added that couples should always “keep the line of communication open,” stressing, “Even if you disagree about something, never go to bed upset at each other. So, work it out.”
Johnson said date nights are also essential. He recalled that his first outing with wife Cookie Johnson was to the movies — a tradition they “still” keep up “after 30-something years.”
“We’re still having a good time because we didn’t forget about date night,” he shared.
Magic, who has supported Cookie’s CJ by Cookie Johnson denim line, emphasized that couples must “support each other,” noting, “I’ve been a businessman for almost 40 years and guess what? She’s supported that.”
But his biggest rule? “Keep everybody [else] out of your relationship. Always remember to make yours, yours.”
