Judge Fines Plaintiff’s Lawyer $1,500 for Questioning Cardi B About Gang Affiliation in Assault Case

Judge Fines Plaintiff’s Lawyer $1,500 for Questioning Cardi B About Gang Affiliation in Assault Case
A judge overseeing Cardi B’s civil assault case has fined the plaintiff’s attorney $1,500 for improperly questioning the rapper about alleged gang affiliation during the trial.
The penalty was issued after the attorney asked Cardi B whether the alleged 2018 strip club altercation was connected to gang activity — a line of questioning the court ruled was irrelevant and inappropriate in the civil proceeding.
According to court records, the judge determined the question had no bearing on the claims at issue and risked unfairly prejudicing the jury, prompting the monetary sanction against the lawyer.
The fine comes months after a Los Angeles County jury ruled that Cardi B was not liable for assault and battery in the case, bringing the civil dispute to a close in her favor.
Cardi B has not publicly commented on the fine imposed against opposing counsel, and her legal team did not respond to requests for comment on the judge’s ruling.
The judge’s decision serves as a reminder of courtroom boundaries — and underscores that even after a verdict is reached, attorneys can still face consequences for conduct deemed out of line.
