[Update] Wiz Khalifa’s 9-Month Romanian Jail Sentence Upheld After Appeals Court Rejects Bid To Overturn Dr*g Conviction
A Romanian appeals court has upheld rapper Wiz Khalifa’s nine-month jail sentence stemming from a 2024 dr*g possession case, rejecting his attempt to overturn the conviction.
On Thursday, the Court of Appeal dismissed Khalifa’s request to annul the sentence, ruling his appeal inadmissible and denying a separate motion to suspend the punishment. The rapper, born Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was convicted in December after authorities said he was caught with more than 18 grams of cannabis and consumed some while performing at the Beach, Please! Festival in July 2024.
The court found him guilty of “possession of dangerous dr*gs, without right, for personal consumption.”
The ruling follows an earlier April decision in which a lower court issued Khalifa a 3,600 lei ($830) fine for “illegal possession of dangerous dr*gs,” before prosecutors successfully pushed for a harsher penalty.
Romania enforces strict dr*g laws, with cannabis possession carrying potential prison time. It remains unclear whether officials will pursue extradition, as Khalifa is a U.S. citizen and does not live in Romania.
Do you think Wiz will have to serve hard time?
