Travis Kelce Expected to Return for 14th NFL Season- Retirement on Hold
Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce may not be hanging up his cleats just yet.
According to multiple reports, the veteran tight end is expected to return for a 14th season in the NFL, delaying retirement despite months of speculation about his future in the league.
Kelce, 36, has spent his entire career with the Kansas City Chiefs, but his contract recently expired — meaning he’s technically entering free agency for the first time. While the Chiefs remain a strong candidate to bring him back, other teams have reportedly expressed interest in the three-time Super Bowl champion.
The All-Pro tight end has been open about weighing his next move, saying he wants to make sure his body is still ready for another run before making a final call. Sources say Kelce has been leaning on close family members — including brother Jason Kelce and fiancée Taylor Swift — as he considers the decision.
Kelce remains one of the most accomplished tight ends in NFL history. Over his career with the Chiefs, he’s earned multiple Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections and holds franchise records for receptions, receiving yards, and touchdown catches.
Even after a relatively modest 2025 season — where he recorded 76 receptions, 851 yards, and five touchdowns — league insiders say the veteran still has significant value and could make an impact if he decides to suit up again.
While Kelce hasn’t officially announced his final decision, the Chiefs organization has made it clear they’re prepared either way — though the team is reportedly hoping their longtime star will return for at least one more season.
