NBA Veteran Lamar Odom Reflects On Kobe Bryant’s Support During Overdose & Coma: ‘That’s Probably What Pulled Me Through’
The lasting impact of Kobe Bryant continues to resonate deeply, as Lamar Odom credits his late “brother” for helping guide his sobriety journey.
As Odom prepares for his upcoming documentary “Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom,” he’s reflecting on how Bryant’s presence — both past and present — has shaped his recovery. The two formed a close bond during their time with the Los Angeles Lakers, winning back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010.
Even during Odom’s 2015 overdose, Bryant showed up. While Odom was unconscious after suffering multiple strokes and heart attacks, Bryant visited his bedside — a gesture that still holds weight years later.
“To know that he was there… When I’m reflecting on it, I think that’s probably what pulled me through. The love that I was getting from everybody. It’s always good to have support, and of course support from your brothers.”
Now focused on staying sober, Odom says he’s leaning on Bryant’s mindset to push forward.
“No alcohol, no pot, no marijuana,” he said. “And I’m just [continuing] to grow mentally and spiritually. I do try to be my best self and practice the Mamba mentality, which has been passed down to me by my late brother [Kobe Bryant].”
Looking ahead, Odom added, “I’m trying to read a lot more [and] sharpen up my brain… And so, every day is a blessing.”
Rest in power to Kobe Bryant??
