Jada Pinkett Smith Denies Claims From Will Smith’s Alleged Friend That She Caused Emotional Distress That Led To His Weight Gain
#JadaPinkettSmith is ready to move on.
The actress is pushing back in court against a lawsuit filed by Bilaal Salaam, the man identified in legal documents as an alleged former friend of her husband, #WillSmith. Salaam’s complaint claims he suffered severe emotional distress after disputes with Jada and the Smith family’s circle, which he says caused weight gain, the end of a romantic relationship and even forced him to leave the country. In his $3-million lawsuit, he alleged Jada publicly trashed him after he wouldn’t assist Will with fallout from the Oscars-slap incident, and that Will and Jada’s friends made threats when they learned he was writing a memoir with information about Will.
In court papers obtained by TMZ, Jada’s legal team disputes those claims as unfounded and lacking proof. They argue Salaam has “not provided any evidence of the emotional distress he claims to have suffered” and that his allegations about his weight gain, lost relationship and relocation are not backed by the sort of documentation the law requires. Jada’s filing calls Salaam’s assertions “false, uncorroborated and made to generate attention as part of an ongoing public campaign of harassment” aimed at her family.
She also says she never even mentioned Salaam by name in previous press comments. Jada is now asking the judge to dismiss the entire lawsuit.
