Comedian & Actor Lil Rel Howery Slams Tony Hincheliffe For ‘Disgusting’ George Floyd Joke At Kevin Hart Roast, Says Audience Should Have Booed Him
More voices are speaking out against #TonyHinchcliffe.
The conservative comedian has faced growing backlash after making a joke about George Floyd during #KevinHart’s Netflix roast. While on stage, Tony delivered a line that drew immediate criticism, saying, “The Black community is so proud of you, [Kevin]… right now George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he can’t breathe.” Floyd was k!lled in 2020 by a Minneapolis police officer after being accused of using a counterfeit $20 bill at a convenience store. During the arrest, Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for several minutes as Floyd repeatedly said he couldn’t breathe.
Tony has been in the hot seat since the roast, and now #LilRel Howery has weighed in. In a series of Instagram videos, Rel said he was unable to attend the event due to a scheduling conflict, but added he would have walked out if he had been in the audience for Tony’s set. While he acknowledged that people can sometimes be “too sensitive” about certain topics, he called the Floyd joke “disgusting” and unnecessary. Floyd’s family also spoke out through a spokesperson, telling TMZ that Kevin giving Tony a platform for the remark was “sad for the culture.” They also noted that Floyd’s daughter, now 12, has been bullied at school, suggesting the joke may make an already difficult situation worse. Tony and Netflix have yet to address the backlash.
