Broncos Player Jonathon Cooper Arrested Again, Faces Four New Charges Following Domestic Violence Case
Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper is facing additional legal trouble after being arrested for a second time in connection with an ongoing domestic vi*lence case.
According to court records, Cooper was arrested Thursday night and hit with four new charges, including two domestic vi+lence-related counts, harassment involving repeated phone calls, and violating a protection order that was issued following his initial arrest earlier this month.
The latest arrest comes just days after Cooper was taken into custody following an alleged altercation involving his girlfriend. Authorities initially charged both Cooper and the woman with domestic violence-related offenses and criminal mischief stemming from a dispute that reportedly began over accusations of infidelity and damaged cell phones. Cooper has pleaded not guilty to the original charges.
Court documents show prosecutors later added a felony charge of second-degree assault by strangulation and a misdemeanor third-degree assault charge related to the June incident. Cooper was subsequently accused of violating a court-issued protection order and engaging in repeated phone contact, leading to the newest charges.
The Denver Broncos addressed the situation in a statement, saying, “We are disappointed to learn of Jonathon Cooper’s arrest on Thursday and continue to review this matter.” The NFL is also reportedly monitoring the case as it moves through the legal system.
Cooper, 28, has spent his entire NFL career with the Broncos since being selected in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The linebacker recorded eight sacks during the 2025 season and signed a four-year, $60 million contract extension with the team in 2024. He is scheduled to return to court next month as the case continues.
