Tyra Banks Sues Netflix-Claims “America’s Next Top Model” Doc Used Just 16 Minutes Of Her Interview To Push A ‘Defamatory Narrative’
Tyra Banks is taking legal action against Netflix, claiming the streamer unfairly shaped her appearance in its “America’s Next Top Model” docuseries.
On Saturday, June 13, Banks filed a defamation lawsuit over her portrayal in Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, alleging producers used only 16 minutes of her three-and-a-half-hour interview “to support a false and defamatory narrative.” According to the lawsuit, Banks agreed to participate because she believed viewers deserved “a candid conversation about the show’s legacy—its successes and its shortcomings.”
The lawsuit claims Netflix edited out major moments where Banks accepted “accountability” for controversial parts of “ANTM.” Instead, she alleges the series suggested she knowingly allowed a contestant to be sexually assaulted, exploited the trauma for ratings, and then could not remember the situation.
Banks also denied claims surrounding Miss J. Alexander, who suffered a stroke in 2022. The lawsuit says she was not given a chance to explain that she had been living in Australia and had tried reaching him multiple times.
Banks is seeking damages for alleged lost business opportunities, loss of income, and “significant mental anguish.” She is also requesting a jury trial.
Do you think Tyra could win this case?
