Jermaine Dupri Gets Emotional Over Da Brat’s Tribute: “I Don’t Know If Anybody Loves Me More”
Jermaine Dupri is opening up about an emotional moment that came while accepting a recent Icon Award.
The music mogul shared a video from the ceremony, showing himself receiving the honor before explaining why the moment hit him so hard. Dupri revealed that Da Brat’s tribute left him struggling to hold back tears.
“Yeah ? I couldn’t hold it together, I tried!” he wrote. “But @sosobrat broke me all the way down.”
According to Dupri, hearing Da Brat talk about the impact he’s had on her life and career caught him off guard. He said she spoke about the guidance he’s given her throughout the years and told the audience that no one could ever take his place in her life.
Dupri reflected on their decades-long friendship, describing it as a rare bond built on loyalty, trust and mutual respect. “In this business for a male and female to be this tight, with no love or sex interest, no blood connections, just 2 people on the same wave, it don’t get more solid than this,” he wrote.
He concluded his message by expressing his love for Da Brat, adding, “I don’t know if it’s anybody that loves me more.”
