NBA Star Trae Young Is Staying In Washington As Wizards Reportedly Prepare Massive $212 Million Deal
Trae Young appears ready to make Washington his long-term basketball home.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the four-time NBA All-Star intends to sign a four-year deal worth approximately $212 million to remain with the Washington Wizards.
The reported agreement includes a player option in the fourth season and comes after Young declined his $48.97 million player option for 2026-27, choosing security over a one-year payday.
Young’s commitment gives Washington a centerpiece after a rough 17-65 season and only a brief first look at him in a Wizards uniform. The star guard was traded from the Atlanta Hawks to Washington in January in a deal involving CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, but injuries limited him to five games with the Wizards. Still, Young brings proven production, with career averages of 25.1 points and 9.8 assists, plus deep playoff experience from Atlanta’s 2021 Eastern Conference Finals run as Washington moves forward now.
