Serena Williams Returns To Wimbledon Tuesday, Set For Centre Court Comeback

Serena Williams is officially set to make her highly anticipated return to Wimbledon’s iconic Centre Court.

ESPN announced that the 23-time Grand Slam champion will face Australia’s Maya Joint in the Ladies’ First Round on Tuesday, with the match scheduled as the third contest on Centre Court at approximately 1 p.m. ET. The matchup marks Williams’ first Wimbledon singles appearance since 2022 after accepting a wild-card entry into this year’s tournament.

The seven-time Wimbledon singles champion recently returned to competitive tennis after stepping away from the sport nearly four years ago. Ahead of her comeback, Williams admitted she nearly talked herself out of accepting the singles wild card before ultimately deciding the opportunity was too meaningful to pass up.

“I thought I should really take this opportunity. Who knows if I’ll ever make it here again. This could be it,” Williams told reporters, adding that she reminded herself, “You really should do this.”

Her return has quickly become one of the biggest storylines of this year’s Championships, with fans eager to see the tennis legend back on one of the sport’s biggest stages.
