Nolan Wells’ Cause & Manner Of De@th Undetermined Following Family’s Autopsy, Attorney Ben Crump Says
The cause and manner of de@th for 18-year-old #NolanWells remain undetermined, according to attorney Ben Crump, who cited a preliminary independent autopsy the family commissioned.
Crump said the report noted “red discoloration” in tissue at the back of the head, though the cause is unknown, and noted decomposition made it difficult for the pathologist to draw conclusions. No toxicology testing was performed, and the autopsy — conducted July 10, six days after Wells’ body was found — was unable to pinpoint a date of de@th. The independent exam, paid for by #ColinKaepernick and performed by former D.C. chief medical examiner Dr. Roger Mitchell, followed a state-conducted autopsy on July 7 whose results haven’t yet been released.
Wells disappeared after a July 4 outing with friends on Mississippi’s Horn Island, and his body was recovered on July 6. A $125,000 reward — funded in part by Rev. Al Sharpton, #TylerPerry, and Terrell Owens — is being offered for information leading to answers in the heartbreaking case.
