Prayers Up! Skilla Baby Says His Mental Health Battle Is Worse Than Being Sh*t

Detroit rapper Skilla Baby is opening up about a private battle that he says felt more painful than surviving gunfire.

During a vulnerable conversation with Pretty Vee for her series “The Outlet,” the rapper reflected on experiencing depression without initially recognizing what was happening. “Until I exited depression, I didn’t know I was in it,” he admitted.

The comments were shared in a sneak peek of Skilla Baby and Pretty Vee’s full interview.

The episode, titled “My Mental Health Was Worse Than Getting Shot,” shows a more personal side of Skilla as he discusses healing, faith and the emotional weight that can remain hidden behind success. He also became emotional while explaining his relationship with God, saying, “I be crying when it comes to God.”

His comments carry added weight following the May 2025 drive-by sh**ting that left him with three nonfatal g*nsh*t wounds. More than 20 rounds were reportedly fired toward his vehicle before he crashed into a building in Redford Township, Michigan.

Rather than presenting survival as only physical, Skilla’s conversation highlights the internal work required after trauma. His admission also challenges the pressure often placed on Black men and rappers to appear unaffected, even while privately struggling with depression, fear and emotional exhaustion.
