During the conversation, President Jaquel Pitts of Indiana Southwest Christian University addressed questions about Bryant’s doctorate, explaining the university’s decision to award her a Doctor of Psychology in Theocentric Psychology through its Prior Learning Assessment process. Pitts maintained throughout the interview that Bryant received an earned degree, not an honorary doctorate.

According to the letter, the school considered Bryant’s case a “special case” and awarded the degree through its Prior Learning Assessment program.
