President Of Dr. Cheyenne Bryant’s Doctoral Institution Addresses Degree Controversy During Marc Lamont Hill Interview
The debate surrounding Dr. Cheyenne Bryant’s academic credentials continues, with Marc Lamont Hill sitting down for an in-depth interview with the president of Bryant’s most recent doctoral institution.
During the conversation, President Jaquel Pitts of Indiana Southwest Christian University addressed questions about Bryant’s doctorate, explaining the university’s decision to award her a Doctor of Psychology in Theocentric Psychology through its Prior Learning Assessment process. Pitts maintained throughout the interview that Bryant received an earned degree, not an honorary doctorate.
The interview comes just days after Pitts began sending media outlets, including theJasmineBrand, a series of documents intended to support the university’s position. Among the materials were a copy of Bryant’s diploma, a degree verification letter, an accreditation certificate, FedEx shipping records, and an email in which Pitts wrote that Bryant’s doctorate “is not an honorary degree.”
In the degree verification letter, Pitts stated that the university waived Bryant’s traditional admissions and coursework requirements after determining she qualified for academic credit based on her professional experience, coaching career, and prior learning. According to the letter, the school considered Bryant’s case a “special case” and awarded the degree through its Prior Learning Assessment program.
The documents have fueled ongoing discussion online as critics continue to question Bryant’s educational credentials, while supporters point to the university’s repeated assertions that the degree was legitimately earned under its academic policies.
Marc Lamont Hill’s interview marks the first extended public discussion with the university president since the controversy erupted, offering viewers a chance to hear directly from the institution about its decision to confer Bryant’s doctorate and the documents it has distributed to media outlets defending that decision.
