Tyler Perry Helps Tuskegee Graduate Janay Duberry Enroll At Harvard By Paying Remaining Tuition
Tyler Perry is changing another life through an act of generosity.
The entertainment mogul recently stepped in to cover the remaining tuition balance for Janay Duberry, a Tuskegee University graduate who was accepted into the Harvard Graduate School of Education. While Duberry had already received substantial financial aid from Harvard, she still faced a financial gap that threatened to keep her from enrolling—until Perry stepped in to help. According to People, his contribution allowed her to move forward with her graduate school plans without the burden of the outstanding balance.
Duberry shared the life-changing news on social media, revealing that Perry believed in her vision as a future educator and writer. Thanking him publicly, she said his support gave her “greater stability and peace of mind” as she prepares to begin classes at Harvard. She also described Perry as “a true light in the Black community,” adding that his investment in her future made it possible for her to pursue the next chapter of her academic journey.
The Alabama native, who earned her undergraduate degree from Tuskegee University, reflected on the years of hard work that led to her Harvard acceptance and expressed gratitude to everyone who supported her along the way. She also credited her HBCU for helping prepare her for the opportunity.
Perry has built a reputation for quietly helping others behind the scenes. Over the years, the filmmaker and philanthropist has paid bills for families in need, donated millions to charitable causes, and funded educational opportunities. His latest gesture is another example of his ongoing commitment to investing in the next generation and helping others reach their goals.
