NBA’s Kawhi Leonard Allegedly Had Secret Multimillion-Dollar Sponsorship Deal With Clippers Arena Scoreboard Manufacturer, Report Claims
The NBA’s investigation into Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers has reportedly taken another turn.
According to a new report from Pablo Torre Finds Out (via Yahoo Sports) Leonard allegedly had a secret multimillion-dollar sponsorship agreement with Daktronics, the company that manufactured the massive Halo Board scoreboard inside the Clippers’ Intuit Dome.
The report alleges the deal was separate from Leonard’s NBA contract and may have served as an additional financial incentive tied to his relationship with the Clippers. The alleged agreement is also reportedly separate from the previously reported $28 million sponsorship deal with financial technology company Aspiration, which is already under NBA investigation.
A spokesperson for Daktronics acknowledged that Leonard previously had a sponsorship agreement with the company but told Reuters he is no longer under contract with the manufacturer.
Neither Leonard nor the Clippers has publicly addressed the latest allegations. The NBA also has not commented on the report, and no findings or disciplinary action have been announced.
The league’s investigation into whether any sponsorship agreements violated NBA salary cap rules remains ongoing.
