“Family Of Go-Go Legend Chuck Brown Pulls Support For Annual D.C. Day Honoring Him Over Alleged Lack Of Communication & Professionalism’ From Event Organizers

The family of Go-Go legend #ChuckBrown is pulling its support for the annual Chuck Brown Day celebration in Washington, D.C., claiming event organizers have marginalized them and failed to respect their role in protecting the late musician’s legacy.

In a statement shared to Instagram, the Brown family said they notified the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation of concerns back in February, but now “no longer support the Chuck Brown Day event” unless new leadership is put in place. The family accused the organizers of a “lack of communication, professionalism, and inability to abide by guidelines in contractual agreements,” saying they can no longer risk the event’s management being interpreted as having the family’s blessing. #ChuckBrownDay is a free annual festival celebrating the “Godfather of Go-Go” and D.C.’s Go-Go culture, traditionally taking place around his August 22 birthday.
