Trial In Case Where Yella Beezy Is Accused Of Paying To Have Rapper MO3 Killed Set To Begin

The case surrounding the 2020 k!lling of Dallas rapper MO3 (pictured right) is moving toward trial, nearly six years after he was f@tally shot on a Texas interstate. Prosecutors allege fellow Dallas rapper Yella Beezy (pictured left) was involved in a m*rder-for-hire plot — meaning they claim he paid or arranged for someone else to k!ll MO3.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday (Aug. 24) for Kewon White, the man accused of chasing and fatally shooting MO3, whose real name was Melvin Noble, on Interstate 35 in Dallas. Prosecutors allege Yella Beezy, whose real name is Markies Conway, hired White to carry out the k!lling amid an alleged feud between the rappers. Devin Brown is also charged with m*rder in connection with the case.

White is currently expected to stand trial first, though the judge reportedly told attorneys for Yella Beezy and Brown to be prepared in case the schedule changes. The case also saw a significant pretrial ruling Friday (Aug. 21), when a judge decided a Dallas police detective would not be allowed to testify as an expert on rap music. Prosecutors have sought to introduce some of Yella Beezy’s lyrics as evidence in the case.

The defense, however, will be allowed to call professor Eric Nielson as an expert. Nielson has argued that rap lyrics are often exaggerated and should not automatically be interpreted as literal accounts of real-life events. Yella Beezy, White and Brown are all facing charges in connection with MO3’s k!lling, with White currently set to be the first defendant to face a jury.
