Dr. Dre Says AI Is Only A Threat To People ‘Who Have Trouble Creating’: ‘It’s Just Another Tool’
Dr. Dre doesn’t appear to be worried about artificial intelligence taking over the music industry.
The legendary rapper, producer and entrepreneur recently shared his thoughts on the growing use of AI in music, arguing that the technology should be viewed as another creative tool. Dre compared the emergence of AI to synthesizers, which also changed how artists and producers made music when they became widely used.
According to Dre, AI becomes a threat depending on the person using — or competing against — it. He said the people who view the technology as a threat are those “who have trouble creating,” suggesting that truly creative people can instead figure out how to incorporate new technology into their work.
His comments come as the music industry continues debating AI’s growing role in everything from songwriting and production to AI-generated vocals and artists. While some musicians have raised concerns about what the technology could mean for human creativity, Dre appears to see it as the latest evolution in how music gets made.
What do you think about Dr. Dre’s take — is AI a threat to music or simply another tool for artists to use?
