N.O.R.E. Sued By Nas’ Child’s Mother Carmen Bryan Over Alleged 1999 S*xual A$$ault-She Says He Followed Her Outside Asking, ‘Don’t You Know Who I Am?’
N.O.R.E. is firing back at the s3xual a$$ault lawsuit filed against him by Carmen Bryan, flatly denying her account just two days after she went public with the claims.
Through his attorney Leonard Lesser, the rapper — born Victor Santiago — dismissed Bryan’s allegations as fabricated, with Lesser stating, “We will defend Mr. Santiago from this legally groundless lawsuit and look forward to exposing Ms. Bryan’s fabrications in court as we clear Mr. Santiago’s good name.” The statement, shared on #NORE’s Instagram, also took aim at Bryan’s credibility by pointing to her 2006 memoir, arguing that she never mentioned Santiago or any similar incident in that book despite its tell-all nature.
Bryan’s original complaint accuses N.O.R.E. of a$$aulting her at a crowded #Manhattan club in 1999, claiming he was intoxicated, ignored her attempts to stop him, and was eventually separated from her by other people at the venue. She alleges he later apologized on two separate occasions, once he recognized her as #Nas’s partner — a detail her lawsuit frames as evidence that he knew his conduct was wrong. Bryan, who worked at Rush Management at the time, says she kept the incident private for over two decades because of the sexism and misogynoir she associated with the hip-hop industry in that era, though she claims she confided in #JayZ, with whom she says she had a long, secret on-and-off relationship, and that he wanted to confront Santiago before she talked him out of it.
Bryan is pursuing the case under New York City’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act, seeking compensatory damages along with damages for emotional distress. With N.O.R.E.’s team now signaling a full legal defense and a plan to challenge her account in court, the dispute is set to play out as a contested civil matter rather than a settled record of events.
