Media Mogul Byron Allen Turns $25 Million Starz Investment Into Nearly $45 Million Just Months After Buying Shares

Media mogul Byron Allen has secured a major payday after selling his entire ownership stake in Starz Entertainment, walking away with nearly $20 million in estimated gains just months after making the investment.

Through his investment company, Allen Family Capital, the billionaire businessman sold approximately 1.8 million shares, representing a 10.7% stake in the television and streaming company, according to Yahoo Finance.

Per securities filings disclosed on October 29, Allen sold the shares between August 7 and September 29, generating approximately $44.9 million.

The sale marks a significant return on his initial $25 million investment made in March. Allen reportedly purchased the shares for approximately $13.86 each from Liberty 77 Capital, an investment firm connected to former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

In just months, Allen earned an estimated $19.9 million before taxes and transaction expenses.

Interestingly, the sale comes after Allen previously expressed interest in purchasing Starz outright. His initial investment even prompted the company to adopt a shareholder rights plan designed to prevent an investor from taking control without board approval.

ā€œWhen I’m ready to buy the company, I will buy the entire company,ā€ Allen previously told The Wrap.

Despite those earlier ambitions, Allen has now completely exited his investment.

The transaction comes as Starz continues operating independently following its 2025 separation from Lionsgate.

With the sale finalized, Allen Family Capital no longer holds a reported ownership stake in the entertainment company.
