Mathew Knowles Hits Newspaper With Lawsuit, Says Outlet Lied About Relationship With Beyonce & Blue Ivy
Mathew Knowles isn’t happy. Beyonce’s father and ex-manager has reportedly filed a lawsuit against British newspaper, ‘The Sun,’ for defamation of character and breach of contract. According to a statement Knowles said the paper,
Knowingly and maliciously misrepresented [his] relationship with his daughter Beyoncé Knowles and with his granddaughter.
Earlier this year, Knowles spoke with a reporter from the publication on the condition that his family would not be be discussed. Later, The Sun published an article that made a number of claims about the relationship between him and his daughter including he has not yet met granddaughter Blue Ivy, he has been cut from Beyonce’s life, and fans can decide if she is better off with husband Jay-Z.
Daddy Knowles released a statement about the article stating:
My daughters and my family mean the world to me. The barrage of repeated falsehoods spawned by the British Sun’s defamatory article has been exhausting and personally damaging to me. No matter how many papers it sells or web hits it generates, The Sun, like any newspaper, needs to maintain a basic level of journalistic integrity. The Sun crossed the line when it went after my family. The Sun needs to be held responsible for its lies in a court of law. This happens too often to too many people, and it is simply unfair.
His lawyer added:
Murdoch’s Sun simply supplied its own fabricated story that would sell more papers and advertising than would the truth. The Sun’s story was not based on the interview. It was made up. With no consideration for the results of its actions, The Sun published malicious and false statements that The Sun knew to be false. Other facts were simply fabricated without regard for the truth.”
‘The Sun’ is owned by Rupert Murdoch who in 2011, was caught in a phone hacking scandal in which they were found to be engaging in illegal activity to publish stories. Mathew managed Beyonce until 2011, when the two decided to “mutually” split as business partners. He is currently the President and CEO of Music World Entertainment.
