[UPDATED] Justin Bieber Released From Jail, Petition Launched to Have Singer Deported to Canada
Unfortunate news for Justin Bieber. Reportedly, the 19-year-old has been arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).
According to CNN, the entire incident went down early Thursday morning in Miami Beach. Here’s what allegedly happened. Bieber had just left a Miami club, and was spotted was driving a yellow Lamborghini in a residential neighborhood.
From what we hear, he was allegedly drag racing (which is illegal) and the vehicle was stopped. At that point, he was was given a field sobriety test at the scene and reportedly failed. He was then arrested and is being taken to jail where he will be processed and bail will be set.
Earlier in the day, Bieber seemed to be in good spirits, sharing photos of him enjoying rapper Lil Wayne’s skate park. Check out some footage.
Reportedly, this is the first time the singer has been arrested, although he is under investigation for allegedly egging his California neighbor’s home. LA deputies used a felony search warrant to raid his mansion in the felony vandalism investigation on January 9. Deputies have also investigated reports by his neighbors that he raced his high-end car down the streets Calabasas but no charges ever resulted.
UPDATE #2 // 3:36 p.m. EST.
As Bieber’s legal troubles grow, so does the possibility that immigration officials could send him back to where he was born, Canada. Attorney Michael Wildes told ABC News that first-degree misdemeanors are not necessarily crimes that lead to deportation. A petition has already began to circulate by folk who suggest the singer should be sent back to Canada. It reads:
We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked. He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nations youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society.
At this point, it only has a little over 700 signatures. An additional 99K are needed by next month. Justin was released from jail Thursday afternoon, after his bail was set at $2,500.
He was escorted by correctional officers and waved to fans during his exit. He was charged with DUI, driving with an expired license and resisting arrest. Officers say he had an expired license, was initially not cooperative when he was pulled over and smelled of alcohol. Police also say he later admitted that he had been drinking, smoking marijuana and taking prescription medication.
