‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ Star Janet Hubert: Takes An L In Court, Loses Legal Battle Over Medical Coverage
Not so good news for actress, Janet Hubert. The ‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ star has suffered a massive loss with her legal battle for coverage of her medical treatments. theJasmineBRAND.com has exclusively learned a federal judge shot down claims that specific medical treatments were needed to help her with a wide range of symptoms.
Hubert — who played the original Aunt Viv on the 90’s sitcom – filed suit against the American Federation of Television and Radio Acts and the AFTRA Health Fund last year in federal court. She explained that for the past decade she has been dealing with rare medical issues that resulted in her not being able to work anymore. Hubert claimed that she needed her insurance with the union to pay for her medical treatment and they had recently cut off off coverage for the procedures she needed.
She claimed that she suffered from everything from “military neck,” a rare condition involving the loss of spinal curvature, “intense spasms”, “strange chattering”, vertigo that left her unable to drive and caused her to sleep sitting up straight among many other medical issues.
Hubert claimed that for years her treatment was covered by the insurance, but in 2011 they informed her they would not be paying for her “Trigger Point Injections” which she claimed started to alleviate her pain. Hubert says the insurance company only would pay for 4 a year, claiming that was all that was necessary — Hubert had received a total of 42 since 2010. Due to the insurance denying her coverage she was unable to afford the treatment and as a result couldn’t accept numerous jobs and even had to go on disability.
The insurance company filed a response earlier this year, claiming they denied her treatments due to them not being medical necessary, which determines whether they will cover medical costs on a policy.
Then on August 7th, the federal court judge presiding over the case sided with AFTRA and the insurance and granted their motion asking to dismiss the case completely. The judge ordered that Hubert’s legal battle be dismissed and she was awarded nothing. Read the EXCLUSIVE Court Documents!

Aw, this was a really nice post. Spending some time and actual effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I put things off a lot and don’t manage
to get nearly anything done.
