Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself: Que Mosley Talks Rock-Star Status, New Music & More

Monday evening, I had the opportunity to rap with Que Mosley, formerly of Diddy’s Day 26. We talked music, a tad-bit about his former group, the state of R&B and his upcoming performance @ DC’s The Park at Fourteenth. When speaking with Que, I could hear how passionate and dedicated he is to his take on music and artistry. Not to mention that the dude is as humble and genuine as they come. Check the interview.
For those of us who lost track of you since your time with Day 26, what have we missed? Basically, I’ve been working on my solo stuff. I have a hot new mix-tape, Guitar-Her. I’m also shooting a video–building my brand is my main focus.
What inspired you to create your latest mix-tape, Guitar-Her? I was learning how to play the guitar from my cousin. The guitar’s body, similar to a woman, is how I envision a woman’s body….and I’m her muse.

When you’re in a group, as a listener or fan, we don’t really get to know about your personal point of view as an artist. How would you describe yourself as an artist and what kind of music do you want to create as an artist? I consider myself a rock-star and a soul singer. When I say rock-star, I don’t mean your traditional or typical rock-star. I mean rock-star in the sense that I’m unconventional, I think and create outside of the box, outside of the norm.
What do you think is missing from R&B right now and how can you fill that void? I don’t necessarily think there’s anything missing. I’m not really a hater. I support and am a fan of other artists like Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Usher, Tank….I just want to add a piece to the puzzle; to the music.
What sets you apart from other male R&B artists right now? I would say that my rock-star mentality sets me apart. I’m not afraid to try something different, to take risks. New harmonies, anything. A lot of people get left behind because they don’t take risks.
From my understanding, this is going to be your first solo live performance in D.C. What can fans expect from your performance? They can expect an exciting and intimate performance. I’m not going to be running around the stage dancing and stuff (laughs), but I’m going to provide a very soulful experience. They’ll be introduced to Que, as a solo artist. I want them to really feel my music. Feel everything that I’ve been through artistically. (Editor’s note: we requested that he Dougie, during his performance, but he politely declined–I kid. Sorta.)
Outside of music, can we expect any other projects in the near future–movies, clothing lines? Eventually, I want to do other things, expand, build my brand–but first i want to be a singer. I want to be successful with this first, then I’ll move forward in building my other talents.
Do you still communicate with Day 26 members? I only talk to Willie; we are still cool. I don’t have any problems w/ them and its no disrespect. Who knows what the future holds; maybe one day we’ll be able to do a reunion, if it makes sense. Honestly, i don’t know, but right now my focus and attention is on building Que and making my name and music successful for me and my fans.
