Sam Smith Talks Vocal Injury & Losing Weight: I was getting bigger and bigger.
This week, Sam Smith chatted with The Today Show’s Natalie Morales to discuss his excitement on singing the new James Bond theme song for the latest film, “Spectre,” hitting theaters in November. The Grammy Award winning singer also discussed his vocal cord hemorrhage injury that caused him to cancel tour dates and his weight loss journey where he recently lost fifty pounds. Check out a few excerpts from the interview below.
On rescheduling his shows due to his injury and recovery:
Sam Smith: It’s been a struggle to get through. I’ve got to plan longer resting breaks in between shows. It’s all feeling good. But I just need to stop writing songs that are too high to sing.
His recent weight loss:
Sam Smith: I am not on a diet. My relationship with food has just completely changed, during the process of this album [‘In the Lonely Hour’], I just was getting bigger and bigger and bigger. When someone calls you ‘gay,’ there’s not much you can do about that because I am. Whereas, if someone calls you fat, there is something you can do about that. I went to bed last night dreaming of tuna melts. I love food.
