Zoe Saldana Dragged Over Nina Simone Poster + See the Trailer [VIDEO]
Zoë Saldana is once again being dragged in these internet streets for playing the role of Nina Simone in the upcoming film, “Nina.” This week, the official poster and trailer for the film was released and it comes as no surprise that some are not a fan of Saldana’s portrayal of the legendary singer.
See a few Twitter reactions below.
As you know, Saldana is of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent, while Simone was African American. According to the backlash, some find it offensive that Saldana wears make-up to darken her skin for the role. The film follows Simone through her legendary career as an American vocalist, particularly her years living in isolation in France after finding it difficult to balance her singing career with her political activism. Nina is directed by first-timer Cynthia Mort.

The trailer looks interesting – it looks like Zoe gave a great performance. Everyone need to look past her natural appearance & give her a chance. The negative judgement from others is no different from how Hollywood overlook African Americans for certain roles “written” for whites (ex: the producer of James Bond producer on Idris Elba – we all know he would rock that character)!
But,honestly speaking Hollywood doesn’t ask African Americans to play non Black roles.
But,I just can’t believe no one else would’ve been good enough to play Ms.Simone.I want to know what happened to Mary j playing that role? That was the person who they initially said was playing the part of Ms.Simone.
