Magic Johnson Snags Lakers Job
The Los Angeles Lakers has fired general manager Mitch Kupchak and hired Magic Johnson in charge of basketball operations in a major shake-up. Lakers owner Jeanie Buss has also removed her brother, Jim, from his job as the Lakers’ executive vice president of basketball operations.
GM Mitch Kupchak has been relieved of his duties and Jim Buss will no longer be EVP of Basketball Operations. 2/2

Jeanie then promoted Johnson, the Hall of Fame point guard who returned to the franchise earlier this year, in an executive role. Johnson confirmed the news, stating:
It’s a dream come true to return to the Lakers as President of Basketball Operations working closely with Jeanie Buss and the Buss family. Since 1979, I’ve been a part of the Laker Nation and I’m passionate about this organization. I will do everything I can to build a winning culture on and off the court. We have a great coach in Luke Walton and good young players. We will work tirelessly to return our Los Angeles Lakers to NBA champions.
