EXCLUSIVE: Larry Sims Talks "Invite Only Cabo", Decision To Do Reality TV & His Sexuality

Larry Sims On “Invite Only Cabo”, Decision To Do Reality TV & Sexuality

Larry Sims has been projected to be a charismatic, charming, down to Earth, hair stylist from Chicago. After years of hard work and grinding, there is no need to project: Larry Sims is everything people have been talking about. Before the successful 40-year-old was working with A-List celebrities like Victoria Beckham, Gabrielle Union, Tracee Ellis Ross, Queen Latifah, and Lupita Nyong’o – Sims was a dancer in Chicago that worked closely with R. Kelly and a slew of other artists.

Fast forward to today, he’s added reality star to his resume. During a recent interview with theJasmineBRAND.com, Sims dishes on his new reality show Invite Only Cabo, his apprehension about doing reality TV and some of the backlash that he’s received. Check out a few excerpts below.

Why he decided to do reality TV:

It was one of those things where people have for years been reaching out to me, trying to figure out what would be a great fit for me – in terms of reality. I have been very particular of how I’ve crafted my career. And, I think I’ve really built a solid brand for myself that is really respected. I could see why be a potentially good look for production companies or networks to be in business with me. I wanted to do something that didn’t feel forced. I’m not a dramatic person. I’m not ‘ratchet.’ And I wanted to do something productive.

How he got involved with Invite Only Cabo

So, when 495 productions – the curators of Jersey Shore – SallyAnn Salsano, the owner too that company reached out to me and she said to me that she had my picture on her vision board for three years and that she was waiting on the right opportunity and the right project. It was perfect.

His apprehensiveness about reality TV:

The last thing I really wanted to do was give people a gateway to my personal life or their opinions about personal relationships with my friends. I definitely was apprehensive about that. But, I also felt safe because it was Bravo, Creme De La Creme.

If he was portrayed accurately:

I feel like I’ve been myself. There are things that you can’t control because it is only a 42 minute show. There a lot of things that people unfortunately don’t get to see.

What he thinks he received the most backlash on with his show:

The most backlash I’ve received is this fascination with [my] sexuality.

If he opens up about his sexuality on the show:

I’m absolutely going to live all of my truth out loud. I am a 40-year-old man, I don’t have anything to hide. I’m not afraid of who I am, and I’m very proud of who I am.

If there will be a season two:

It’s too soon to know. But we’ve definitely talked about potential ideas if it does come about. Regardless if it’s with Invite Only or another outlet, I definitely know this isn’t my last bit on TV.

I loved the show. I was not so interested in his sexuality, because it was clear that he was gay, I just was confused about his relationship with the woman. It was clear that she wanted to make her claim with him when it was other women, however, when the guy arrived she just politely stepped aside and was pro him and the relationship with the guy. That is what confused me. But I loved how much he loved the guy but why make the girl think it was more to what they had?

Yeah, that whole dynamic was interesting. I think Larry knew exactly what he was doing giving her that ring and all. I love Larry, and I think he did that because he really did care about her but it added excitement to the show. The other guys didn’t have to tell him that giving her a ring meant what it does – he knew that. I think his feel-good love for Corey maybe pushed him to play a little game with her – he knew all along who he would be with. I’m not sure how to take her response to the whole thing. It may have been staged to a certain extent.

Sorry, but Corey is way tooooooooooo young for this old head. How can you say “SUGAR DADDY”. No one was watching this show to seek info on his sexuality because clearly, we all have eyes and we see Larry Sims is gay. I am not even going to say bi because he clearly love the men more. What the hell was all that screaming for, it was real UNNECESSARY. No real man runs around the house having a meltdown over nothing. Mr Fine Ass Boys t shirt.

Gross-ass Emily drove me nuts. All that chewing off her nails and the sloppy SLOPPY drunkness…..eeeek. I see where Agu and K broke it off – I knew that wouldn’t work. I bet once he hit it, he quit it….way too much drama from her.

I knew Larry wasn’t into Bianca on the first day. How are you going on a trip with someone you think you are romantically involved with, but he put you in a room with one of his friends? Corey came to visit and he got in the room and in the bed with Larry. Some of the events I think was staged. If all Agu wanted to do with Kamani was tapped it, he should have just said so instead of leading her on. She made it very clear what she wanted and what she was looking for. However, when Emily hopped in that bed with him and did whatever it was they did, she should have knew then he just wanted to play around. Men actions speak louder than their words I am glad they had a good time in Cabo. I am pretty sure it was a memorable time by all.
