Buju Banton Found Guilty…Sentenced to 10 Years

According to the Associated Press, 37-year-old Buju Banton (real name Mark Myrie) has been found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense and using a telephone to facilitate a drug trafficking offense. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Buju has been known to be politically outspoken and influenced by Marcus Garvey and the Rastafari movement. He received Grammy nods for Rasta Got Soul, Too Bad (2007), Friends for Life (2004) and Inna Heights (1999).
