Gladys Knight’s Publicist Shuts Down Reports That The Singer Has Pancreatic Cancer

A comment made on the day of Aretha Franklin‘s funeral may have sent mixed messages to fans who have now become concerned about Gladys Knight‘s health.

This morning, as Gladys Knight was entering Aretha’s homegoing celebration, she stopped to talk to the press about her memories of her good friend and sister.  Gladys also took a moment to discuss the last time she spoke to Aretha.

“The last time I talked to her, we were at the same hotel and we didn’t know it,” Knight tells the reporter.

“I went down and I said, ‘ReRe, what are you doing down here?’ So, we just got to talking and everything and at that time, we shared the fact that we had the same disease.”

Gladys’ comment, which was made to local Detroit news station WDIV-TV (Channel 4), began to travel, with multiple publications reporting that Gladys Knight is currently battling pancreatic cancer. However, Knight’s publicist says that these reports are not true.

When asked what Knight meant by her remark about sharing the same disease, Delgado tells Detroit News,

“I’m not sure. Maybe she meant she feels her pain. But she does not have cancer.”
