Fat Joe Defends Joel Ortiz’s Big Pun Tribute, “Pun was surrounded by idiots.”

Fat Joe has stepped in to defend his friend, Joel Ortiz. Ortiz recorded the song “Big Pun’s Back” as a tribute to the late Big Pun earlier this summer. Although the song was in honor of the fallen rapper, Ortiz received a lot of criticism from Pun’s widow and friends. Pun’s widow, Liza Rios, was upset over the fact that Ortiz referred to himself as “the new Christopher Rios” in the song. (Christopher Rios is Big Pun’s real name.) She stressed that her son was the only person who should ever dare to make such a statement.
On the Funkmaster Flex’s radio show Ortiz explained…
“It was a tribute, and it was a freestyle and it was in memory of a great rapper. I’m from Brooklyn. I don’t have to check in with anyone about anything. I did it for Big Pun to keep his legacy alive. That’s it.”
But now, Fat Joe has stepped in to give his two cents. In an interview with XXL, Fat Joe gave his perspective and called Big Pun’s old friends are idiots. When he was asked what he thought about “Big Pun’s Back” he said…
“I thought it was incredible. I thought it was great. I never seen a guy in my
fuckin’life get backlash forfuckin’biggin’ up somebody.” He continued on to say “See, what happened is Big Pun was surrounded by an enormous amount of idiots. You got a younger Spanish dude who’s hot in the streets and he wants to honor Big Pun and you throw slander at him and you disrespect him forfuckin’honoring Pun? How do you expect anybody else to honor Big Pun or talk about him in a good way?”
Listen to the song below and tell us whether you think it’s offensive or not.
