R. Kelly Appears In Court Over Child Support Case W/ Ex Andrea Kelly
After being released from jail for the second time late last week, embattled singer/songwriter/producer R. Kelly was recently back in court over his continuous struggle with delinquent child support payments.
While many thought he would remain in jail due to his well-publicized financial issues, R. Kelly apparently has friends in high places with large bank accounts because someone anonymously paid the entire $161,000 that he owed in back child support. This generosity allowed him to be quickly released from jail, but the matter is not entirely over, as Kelly recently made a court appearance regarding the child support issue.
Kelly was quickly ushered in to the Daley Center Court to attend a closed-door hearing in Judge Lori Rosen’s courtroom in the battle with his ex-wife Andrea Kelly over unpaid child support. Andrea was not present at the recent court hearing.
Steven Greenberg, Kelly’s attorney, said the singer’s divorce case was originally sealed as part of mutual agreement and remains closed to the public despite that fact that the case has currently landed back in court due to the child support dispute. The only part of the case that is public knowledge is that back 2009, Kelly was ordered to pay Andrea Kelly over $20,00 a month in child support for their three children.
Greenberg was not able to answer questions regarding the court proceedings because Judge Rosen barred anyone involved in the case from discussing it publicly. However, Kelly’s publicist, Darryll Johnson, briefly told reporters that Kelly is seeking to have his payments reduced due to his inability to work. “He can’t work,” Johnson said. “All these accusations and lies, he can’t work.”
