French Montana Sued By 15-Year-Old Producer Over Stolen Song Claims
Rapper French Montana may have to cough up some serious funds if a new lawsuit claims prove true. Montana is being sued by a young producer who claims he stole the track for his 2013 hit, single “Ain’t Worried About Nothin’.”
One of French Montana’s biggest hits is reportedly being called into question—and it’s at the hands of a then 15-year-old producer. Hotwire the Producer, real name Eddie Lee Richardson, claims Montana stole the song he previously uploaded in 2012, a year before “Ain’t Worried About Nothin’” was released.
Hotwire claims that his track, titled “*Hood* Pushin’ Weight,” was uploaded to SoundClick in 2012, when he was just 15-years-old, as an instrumental with a “unique and artistic array of digital sounds and rhythms.” The lawsuit also states that his track featured a “tagged” and repeating vocal that says “Hotwire,” which was a method of him marking his work so that it couldn’t be stolen by someone else.
Hotwire is adamant that Montana and the song’s producer Rico Love completely stole his version, as the music is an exact duplicate with only lyrics and vocals added on top of it.
Hotwire is currently suing French Montana for $5 million in royalties.
