Kim Kardashian Returns To White House, Announces Partnership To Help Released Prisoners Get To Job Interviews
Kim Kardashian isn’t taking her initiative on criminal justice reform lightly. The reality star and business mogul ventured out to make a difference in the legal system years ago. And she’s still taking steps to improve it. In her latest attempt, Kardashian paid the White House a visit to discuss criminal justice with President Donald Trump. The two stood side-by-side as Kardashian spoke on ideas to help make it easier for inmates who leave prison to enter the workforce.
Trump introduced Kardashian, who was at first sitting in between his daughter Ivanka Trump, the advisor to the President and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who is the senior advisor to the President.
Once she took the stage next to Trump, Kardashian broke her silence and said,
“It really is such an honor to be here today.”
She commended Trump’s backing for the Second Chance program, calling it “magic” as she revealed the program joined forces with ridesharing service Lyft to provide gift cards for released prisoners so they could have transportation to job interviews.
Kardashian then shared her journey in her fight for criminal reform. She said,
“My whole journey with criminal justice reform started about a year ago when I came to see the president after speaking to Ivanka and Jared who really fought for me to get here and I pled the case of Alice Johnson who the president granted clemency to. And after that I really spent so much time going to different prisons because I really had no connection to anybody on the inside and really just felt like for me, I’m at the place in my life that I wanted to make a difference and just wanted to do the right thing, but I didn’t know how or what to do even really what was going on.”
She said that her trips to various prisons are what encouraged her to practice law. She added,
“I’m so happy to be here today amongst people that want the same thing and that really believe in supporting their re-entry. I just want to thank the president for really standing behind this issue and seeing the compassion that he’s had for criminal justice has been really remarkable.”
Kardashian also documented her visit on social media.
