Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irvin & DeAndre Jordan To Sign w/ The Brooklyn Nets
A new era is bringing in the east as the Brooklyn Nets have signed not one, but two superstar players on 4-year deals. On Saturday, former Boston Celtic, Kyrie Irving allegedly reached a deal on a four-year, $141 million maximum contract with the Nets, according to ESPN.
“Free agent Kyrie Irving is meeting with the Brooklyn Nets in New York on Sunday and both sides are motivated to move quickly toward reaching a 4-year, $141M deal.”
The following day, Kevin Durant is said to have signed a similar deal with the Nets, signing for 4-years, reaching a payout a little over $20 million more than Irving.
“Sources: Durant will sign a 4-year, $164M deal with the Nets; Irving will sign 4-years, $141M.”
Nets also reportedly added former Dallas Maverick, veteran center, DeAndre Jordan in free agency. Jordan averaged 11.0 points, 13.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game on 64.1 percent shooting. Terms of the deal have not been reported.
As previously reported, Durant reportedly declined his player option worth $31.5 million to become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday, with the Golden State Warriors, leaving behind a five-year, $221 million deal.
During his brief free agency, Durant had his eyes locked in on five selected teams including the Warriors, Brooklyn Nets, New York, Knicks and the Los Angeles Clippers, according to ESPN.
“One thing I’m told is he is really focused on making his decision independently of anyone else and that includes Kyrie Irving. He’s at a point in his career where he’s going to decide really essentially on four-year deal elsewhere or a five-year deal with the Golden State, where he’s going to spend the rest of his prime.”
Durant suffered a ruptured right Achilles in Game 5 of The Finals after dribbling on the right wing, coming up lane on a crossover move and falling to the floor. Earlier this month, Durant had successful surgery to repair his torn achilles and his return is unknown. This past season, Durant averaged 26 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. In the playoffs, he averaged 32.3 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 4.5 apg and 1 bpg.
