“Training Day” Prequel Is On The Way!

‘Training Day’ Prequel Is On The Way!
Training Day is reportedly getting a prequel! The original film, starring Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, was released in 2001.
Now, nearly 20 years later, we’ll know the back story of Washington’s character, Alonzo Harris. According to reports, it will take place in April 1992, 10 years earlier than the original. It’s slated to be set two days prior to the Rodney King verdict that resulted in several riots and protests in L.A., so that could be a major storyline.
Up-and-coming screenwriter Nick Yarborough will write the script. While Antoine Fuqua directed the initial film, a director hasn’t been tapped for the prequel.

Casting hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it could include Washington’s son, John David Washington.

He’s currently 35, and filmmakers are reportedly looking for an actor who’s roughly 37-years-old to play the younger Harris. John David is no stranger to Warner Bros, the studio that’s making the prequel happen. John David is currently filming as the lead of WB’s Tenet.
The success of the original is no secret. It landed Washington his second Oscar and his first as a lead role. Hawke also won Best Supporting Actor and the movie grossed more than $100 million worldwide.
