Idris Elba ‘Might’ Be The Next James Bond, According To one of Hits ‘Cats’ Co-Stars
There’s hope for fans who are hoping Idris Elba will be announced as the next James Bond.
Idris Elba’s Cats co-star Judi Dench said she believes it could actually happen.
In a recent interview, Judi Dench said,
“I knew he was up for it and in ‘Cats’ I had the line to him ‘You’ll never get to Heaviside Layer’ but, during rehearsals, I said, ‘you’ll never get to MI6’.
Still, she confessed,
“But I think he might.”
If Idris Elba lands the role, he’ll be the first Black actor to ever do so in the history of the franchise.
While there’s been a question of whether he’ll get the part for years, in June, Idris Elba responded to the backlash of him possibly inking the gig. He told Vanity Fair,
“You just get disheartened when you get people from a generational point of view going, ‘It can’t be.’ And it really turns out to be the color of my skin. And then if I get it and it didn’t work, or it did work, would it be because of the color of my skin? That’s a difficult position to put myself into when I don’t need to.”
Interestingly enough, he said he never actually went for the role, but certainly wouldn’t turn it down if it was presented to him.
“James Bond is a hugely coveted, iconic, beloved character, that takes audiences on this massive escapism journey. Of course, if someone said to me ‘Do you want to play James Bond?,’ I’d be like, Yeah! That’s fascinating to me. But it’s not something I’ve expressed, like, yeah, I wanna be the black James Bond.”
