Missy Elliott Channels Iconic Female Groups In “Why I Still Love You” Music Video Ft. Monica
Music video queen, Missy Elliott released her latest visual Thursday (Jan. 16th), and this time around, she’s seen leading her own girl group for the new video for “Why I Still Love You.” The video, co-directed by Missy Elliott and Derek Blanks, begins with a young girl dressed in a classic, “Work It”-era Adidas tracksuit. She becomes memorized by the art and portraits of Missy and her Sixties girl group in a museum.

While wandering off from her group in the museum, she’s caught by her mother played by Grammy-award winner, Monica.
Monica tells the little girl that Missy Elliott and the Demeanors were an iconic girl group throughout the decades, leading into a dream sequence where Missy performs with her backing trio.

The video jumps into the next decade, as Missy and her trio take on the ’70s disco maven. Seemingly, an ex-lover unexpectedly knocks on their dressing room with flowers but Missy and her girls want no parts.

Before the young girls daydream jumps back to reality, Missy goes ‘80s punk with a spiky mohawk and a bull nose ring.

The track was originally released on Missy’s August 2019 EP, Iconology, her first body of work in 14 years. In a recent interview, Missy opened up on her return to music,
“I hate to say I’m back because in reality I never went nowhere. I was still doing stuff behind the scenes. I don’t always want to be upfront. I’m very shy.”
