Legendary Singer Bill Withers Of ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ & ‘Just The Two Of Us’ Dies
The world has lost another legend.
Singer Bill Withers, whose iconic vocals were heard on songs like “Lean On Me” and “Lovely Day”, has died, according to AP.
His family said in a statement that he passed away Monday (March 30) in Los Angeles.
“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved, devoted husband and father. A solitary man with a heart driven to connect to the world at large, with his poetry and music, he spoke honestly to people and connected them to each other. As private a life as he lived close to intimate family and friends, his music forever belongs to the world. In this difficult time, we pray his music offers comfort and entertainment as fans hold tight to loved ones.”
His cause of death has not been announced, but his songs like “Lean On Me”, have become a staple of encouragement amid the widespread of the coronavirus.
His debut single, “Ain’t No Sunshine” was released in 1971, along with singles like “Grandma’s Hands.”
The next year he released “Lean on Me”, before “Lovely Day” and “Just The Two Of Us.”
“Ain’t No Sunshine” and “Just The Two Of Us” earned him a Grammy-Award for his role as a songwriter in 1981 and 1987 respectively.
Stevie Wonder inducted him into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
