“The Best Man” Sequel Underway

It’s official! Universal pictures have given director Malcolm D. Lee the green light on The Best Man 2. The wedding themed comedy grossed about $35 million in 1999. Lee wrote and directed the movie which was about a writer (Taye Diggs) preparing to be the best man in his best friend’s (Morris Chestnut) wedding, but the writer’s novel turns out to be an autobiographical narration of their lives in which he has sexual relations with Chestnut’s fiance. The movie also starred Nia Long, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan and Harold Perrineau. Rumor has it that Lee plans to ask the original cast to reprise their roles as the idea for the sequel came from a reunion dinner where most of the cast was present and ideas between them and the studio on a sequel surfaced.
