Breonna Taylor: Grand Jury Indicts 1 of 3 Officers In Police Shooting
A grand jury has come to a decision in Breonna Taylor’s case. According to reports, the Grand jury has indicted 1 officer on criminal charges 6 months after Breonna Taylor was fatally shot by police in Kentucky. Reportedly, former Louisville Metro Police Department Detective Brett Hankison has been charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment by the grand jury in the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor.
No other officer has been charged at this time.
Breonna Taylor was unfortunately fatally shot by police after Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly and officers Brett Hankison and Myles Cosgrove executed a no-knock warrant at her apartment in March. The officers involved have yet to be arrested, despite nationwide protests calling for justice.
Ahead of the grand jury’s decision, the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) declared a state of emergency to prepare for any reaction stemming from the outcome.
LMPD Interim Chief Rob Schroeder said in a statement:
“To ensure we have the appropriate level of staffing to provide for public safety services and our policing functions, effective immediately the LMPD will operate under the emergency staffing and reporting guidelines as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures, Emergency Response Plan and collective bargaining agreements until further notice.”

An insider told CNN that the grand jury,
“will be hearing other criminal cases first to get their feet wet with the process and then hear the Taylor case.”
The grand jury was also set in place to determine what charges, if any, the three policemen involved in Breonna Taylor’s death would face.
“If they emerge with indictments that are only in relation to the actual shooting, we would have plenty of questions regarding all of the criminal actions leading up to and after the shooting.”
Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron released a statement on Sept. 9th.
