‘Bridgerton’ Star Regé-Jean Page Has No Plans To Be The Next James Bond

‘Bridgerton’ Star Regé-Jean Page Has No Plans To Be The Next James Bond

Update #2 (Jan. 11th): Bridgerton star Regé Jean-Page is flattered by fans’ desire for him to be the next James Bond, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be taking on the role anytime soon.

He responded to the internet’s plea while on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.

“I think the internet thinks a lot of things, and that is one of the more pleasant ones, so I can be pleased as far as that goes. But no, I think there might be an element of cultural translation to be done here. If you’re a Brit and you do something of any kind of renown that people regard well, then people start saying the B-word.”

He continued:

“But I don’t think it’s much more than that. I’m very, very glad to have the badge. I’m glad to be in such wonderful company of people who have the badge. But it’s a badge.”

Original Story (Jan. 7th): As Netflix’s Bridgerton becomes a juggernaut success, fans are calling for Regé-Jean Page (a.k.a. Duke of Hastings) to serve as the next James Bond.

He first sparked rumors on Dec. 16 when he shared a video with a nod to James Bond’s martini preference. He wrote:

“Regency, royalty. Shaken and stirred.”

It’s been reported that 68 million households will have seen Shonda Rhimes’ latest hit soon, and Regé-Jean Page, who also starred in Shondaland’s For The People on ABC, has surfaced as a breakout heartthrob, causing fans to state their case for him to be the next Bond.

A British betting firm, Ladbrokes, said he has favorable odds in landing the iconic role, according to Variety. Ladbrokes representative Alex Apati said:

“Tom Hardy still leads the way as favorite, with James Norton close behind in second place. But it really is all to play for in the race for 007 and RJP has a great chance if the odds are anything to go by.”

Still, he pointed out that odds in the past have seen a dip after attention toward a series goes away.

“All of those aforementioned names have seen their odds slashed immediately after a huge hype around the show they most recently starred in, hence why it’s no surprise to see a similar pattern with Regé-Jean Page. However, what strengthens RJP’s chances somewhat more is that an announcement feels seemingly imminent [around] Daniel Craig’s replacement, so the timing of ‘Bridgerton”s success may well have worked in his favor.”

Idris Elba is still also a high contender for the role.
